PHYSIOLOGY OF THE STRESS RESPONSE Stress inducing agents

چکیده
Stress may be defined as a state of threatened homeostasis. Stress has been shown to have a role in the cause of diabetes and certainly in the management of the disease. There may be cortisol mediated intra abdominal fat deposition, modulated by chronic stress, leading to metabolic syndrome or Syndrome X. Hypothalamic-pituitary-axis (HPA) activity has also been postulated to have a significant role in intrauterine programming. The Hoorn study has shown that stressful l i fe events may be associated with visceral adiposity and type 2 diabetes mellitus. In the management of type 2 diabetes mellitus, compliance depends on personality traits and healthcultural beliefs. In childhood diabetes, emotional pain of coping may be taken as a paradigm in planning management for the child as well as the family. Diabetes specific psychological instruments for qual i ty of l i fe, wel l being and treatment satisfaction, could prove useful in clinical practice and in clinical audit.

Effects of Response of Ocimum basilicum to the interactive effect of salicylic acid and salinity stress. Maryam Delavari1, Shekoofeh Enteshari1* and Khosrow Manoochehri Kalantari2,3
In this study, the role of salicylic acid pre-treatment (0.01, 0.1 mM was investigated)in inducing salt tolerance in sweet basil. Results showed germination percentage, length of shoot and root, fresh and dry weight of leaf, and photosynthetic pigments were decreased in response to high salinity but the lipid peroxidation, coefficient allometry, and soluble sugars increased. In plants pre-treat...
متن کاملThe Effect of Opium Addiction on Response to Major Operation Stress
Background: Internal medicine consultants are frequently asked to evaluate patients' tolerance against the stress of an intended surgical operation. Classification of surgical operations to mild, moderate and major is based on the morbidity and mortality rates due to the procedure, duration of procedure and underlying risk factors of the patient. Body response to surgical stress is via some hor...
متن کاملThe effects of subchronic social and isolation stresses on learning and memory trend in male rats
Introduction: Psychological stresses influence brain functions such as learning and memory. Environmental factors like types and durations of stress affect brain responsiveness. This study investigated the effects of two subchronic social and isolation stresses on learning, memory, adrenal glands weight and corticosterone levels in the hippocampus and frontal cortex. Methods: Eighteen male ...
متن کاملGemfibrozil protect PC12 cells through modulation of Estradiol receptors against oxidative stress
Introduction: Neurodegenerative diseases are progressive disorders that could impair neuronal functions and structures. Oxidative stress and mitochondrial dysfunction are involved in the etiology of neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson’s disease and etc. Gemfibrozil is used as a therapeutic drug for hyperlipidemia. It has been shown that gemfibrozil is n...
متن کاملRole of Oxidative Stress in Modulating Unfolded Protein Response Activity in Chronic Myeloid Leukemia Cell Line
Background: Recently, it has been revealed that tyrosine kinase inhibitors (TKIs) act through inducing both oxidative and endoplasmic reticulum (ER) stress in chronic myeloid leukemia cells. However, ER stress signaling triggers both apoptotic and survival processes within cells. Nevertheless, mechanisms by which TKIs avoid the pro-survival effects are not clear. The aim of this study was to ev...
متن کاملEllagic acid improved arrhythmias induced by CaCL2 in the rat stress model
Objective: In ventricular arrhythmias, due to their free radical scavenging action, antioxidant agents are usually used in the treatment of cardiovascular disease. Since stress is considered as risk factor for increased mortality by causing malignant arrhythmias, the study was designed to evaluate the cardioprotective effects of ellagic acid (EA) on CaCl2-induced arrhythmias in rat stress model...
